The Whole Truth film review
When you see this film from the outside it looks very interesting. Keane Reeves, Renée Zellweger, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw, all placed into a tension filled courtroom. What could go wrong?
Turns out everything. As much as it pains me to say, Keanu delivering an obnoxious voiceover, whilst portraying an unimaginative bland lawyer just didn’t work.
Zellweger, given the role of an adulterous wife, faking her sorrow and pain whilst her son is on trail for murder. It is not crystal clear if this role was perfectly casted, or if Renée simply wasn’t feeling it.
Either way the emotions shown by this grieving mother, we’re nothing thicker than two dimensional. Not good enough at faking the emotions? Or too good at having to fake them?
Simply though, any film that uses a fake rape allegation to further the story, no matter the context is not something I can necessarily recommend. Does this really even further the story? It may be the fact that got Mike acquitted, but it doesn’t take a genius to come up with a better storyline.
Overall, in my opinion not worth viewing. I finished this film not happy I watched it, but happy I didn’t have to watch it again.
2* 4/10
